Expecting the status quo to do anything other than maintain the status quo makes little sense.
What is the status quo, in a societal context? Its the way society currently functions - the institutions, laws, norms, power structures and accepted practices that most take for granted.
Who protects the status quo? Those who benefit from the status quo.
I could rewrite this aphorism to say - Every answer provided by those the status quo benefits, reinforces their benefits.
